AURIEMMA AND CALIPARI NAMED 2008 NAISMITH COLLEGE COACHES OF THE YEAR

ATLANTA (April 9, 2008) – Geno Auriemma of Connecticut and John Calipari of Memphis have been named the 2008 Naismith Women’s and Men’s College Coaches of the Year, respectively, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today.

The two were selected by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s board of selectors, a collection of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country, based on their coaching performances this season. The Naismith Award, presented annually to the top men’s and women’s college coaches, is the most prestigious national award in college basketball.

Former Naismith High School Winner Claims Coveted College Award

TAMPA, FLA. (April 7, 2008) – University of Tennessee All-America Forward Candace Parker has been named winner of the 2008 Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today.  Parker was presented with the Naismith Women’s College Player of the Year trophy by Atlanta Tipoff Club Board of Directors Member Barry Goheen and AT&T Senior Vice President, Architecture and Planning Kris Rinne at the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association convention in Tampa, Fla.

Junior Forward Follows Jordan, Jamison to Claim School's Third Award

ATLANTA (April 6, 2008) - North Carolina All America Tyler Hansbrough was named winner of the 2008 Naismith Trophy Men's College Player of the Year presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. Hansbrough accepted the trophy from Jim Williams, Atlanta Tipoff Club Chairman, and David Christopher, Chief Marketing Officer for AT&T's wireless unit, at the National Association of Basketball Coaches' "Guardians of the Game" Awards Show in San Antonio, Texas, site of the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four.

BASKETBALL LEGENDS HONORED FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO BASKETBALL

Jody Conradt and Dick Vitale Selected as Naismith Award Winners

ATLANTA (March 14, 2008) – College basketball coaching icon Jody Conradt and longtime ESPN broadcaster Dick Vitale have been selected as the 2008 Naismith Women’s and Men’s Outstanding Contributor to Basketball recipients, respectively, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. Created in 1982, the award pays tribute to the individuals who have made a significant impact on women’s and men’s college basketball.

Auriemma, Chancellor, Stringer and Summitt Seek Top Coaching HonorATLANTA (March 6, 2008) – Geno Auriemma of Connecticut and Pat Summitt of Tennessee, who between them have collected nine awards, have been named finalists for the 2008 Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year honor, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. They are joined by Rutgers coach C. Vivian Stringer, who won the Naismith Award in 1993 at Iowa, and LSU’s Van Chancellor, 3-time WNBA Coach of the Year

The Naismith Award is the most prestigious national award presented annually to the men’s and women’s college basketball coaches of the year. The winner will be announced during the 2008 NCAA Women’s Final 4 in Tampa, Fla.

ATLANTA (March 5, 2008) – Veteran basketball officials Tommy Salerno and Scott Thornley, with a collective 66 years of college officiating experience between them, were named the 2008 Naismith Women’s and Men’s College Officials of the Year, respectively, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today.
