Founded during the 1956-57 basketball season as a way for Atlantans to share in a common bond – the love and enjoyment of basketball
- Mission: To promote, develop, and celebrate the sport of basketball in metro Atlanta and the state of Georgia through the Atlanta Tipoff Club and nationally through the Naismith Awards.

The Atlanta Tipoff Club Awards Dinner recognizes the top high school players, coaches and administrators in metro Atlanta and the state of Georgia. Winners are honored for the following awards:

- Whack Hyder Georgia Women’s College Coach of the Year
- Whack Hyder Georgia Men’s College Coach of the Year
- Bobby Cremins Girl's High School Coach of the Year

- Steve Schmidt Outstanding Contributor to Basketball
- Bob Eskew Outstanding Sportsmanship Award
