Sink and Boyle Selected as 2011 Naismith National High School Basketball Coaches of the Year


Sink and Boyle were selected by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, a collection of leading basketball journalists from around the country, based on their successes over the course of the season.


  

ATLANTA (March 18, 2011) – Brea Olinda (Calif.) High School girl’s basketball head coach Jeff Sink and St. Patrick (N.J.) High School boy’s coach Kevin Boyle have been named the 2011 Naismith National High School Basketball Coaches of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today.

Sink and Boyle were selected by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, a collection of leading basketball journalists from around the country, based on their successes over the course of the season. 

The two winners will be honored at the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Naismith Awards banquet presented by AT&T on March 21 at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta.  Among those also being honored that evening are Cheryl Miller, Dick Enberg and Dominique Wilkins for their outstanding contributions to women’s and men’s basketball. 

The Naismith Trophy, presented annually to the top girl’s and boy’s high school players and coaches in the country, is the most prestigious national award in high school basketball. 

“These coaches have enjoyed tremendous seasons and remarkable careers, and most importantly, they positively affect  the growth and maturation of  the athletes who go through their programs,” said Eric Oberman, Executive Director of the Atlanta Tipoff Club. “We salute the hard work and success of both Kevin and Jeff, and congratulate them on this well-deserved honor.”

About the winner

Jeff Sink:  
This 30-year coaching veteran led the Brea Olinda Lady Wildcats to a national number one ranking in USA Today for the majority of the 2010-11 season and a 32-2 overall record. This season, Sink also marked his 700th career victory, and now boasts an all-time coaching record of 719-146.
“I have been blessed throughout my 30-year coaching career with great teams and amazing athletes to work with,” said Sink. “I share and accept this award on behalf of the thousands of high school coaches who labor year in and year out to teach this wonderful game to young people.”

Kevin Boyle:
St. Patrick went 26-1 during the 2010-11 season and gained a berth in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Non-Public B Championship Game.  The Celtics were ranked No. 1 nationUSA Today or most of the season. During his career, Boyle has coached future college and NBA players like Kyrie Irving, Dexter Strickland, Al Harrington, Corey Fisher, Derrick Caracter and Samuel Dalembert.
“It is such an incredible honor to receive the most prestigious basketball award in all of coaching,” said Boyle.
