Atlanta Tipoff Club Announces New Additions to Organization
The additions signify continued growth for the organization, which was formed in 1956 as a way to create excitement and passion around basketball in Atlanta.

ATLANTA (February 10, 2011) – The Atlanta Tipoff Club (ATOC), administrator of the Naismith Trophy since 1969, today announced new additions to its Board of Directors and newly created Advisory Council. The additions signify continued growth for the organization, which was formed in 1956 as a way to create excitement and passion around basketball in Atlanta.
Keith Dockery (Buckhead ENT), Kyle Farnham (MSL Atlanta), Matt Hong (Turner Sports), Jamie Kerr (AT&T Mobility), David Marler (Nfinity Athletic Corp.), Krista Massey (SunTrust Banks), Greg McMenamy (McMenamy Law), Vance Overbey (AT&T Mobility), Fred Perpall (Beck), Kit Walsh (Collegiate Licensing Company) and Laurie Wilder (Parker Executive Search) join the ATOC Board of Directors. Anthony Lombardi (Westin Peachtree Hotel), former Georgia Tech basketball player Malcolm Mackey and Bob Rathbun (Atlanta Hawks) have been added to the ATOC Advisory Council.
Barry Goheen continues on as chairman of the board, a role he accepted in July, 2008. Goheen, a business litigation attorney and partner at the law firm of King & Spalding in Atlanta, was a standout college basketball player at Vanderbilt University from 1985-1989. He initially joined the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Directors in 2004 and also serves on the Atlanta Sports Council Board of Directors.
“Because of our heritage and tradition, the Atlanta Tipoff Club is a highly respected brand, not only in Atlanta but also nationally,” said Goheen. “Adding these individuals to our already strong group will no doubt position us for continued growth over the next several years.”
The Atlanta Tipoff Club, managed by the Atlanta Sports Council under the umbrella of the Metro Atlanta Chamber, is committed to promoting the game of basketball and recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of those who make the game so exciting. The Atlanta Tipoff Club has presented the Naismith Trophy since UCLA’s Lew Alcindor first won the award in 1969.
The Naismith Awards program has become an emblem of excellence for the game, recognizing the Men’s and Women’s College Player of the Year, Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year, as well as awards for outstanding achievement in high school basketball, officiating and overall contribution to the game.
