Coach Becomes First Winner from Big 12 Conference
ATLANTA (April 7, 2010) – University of Nebraska head basketball coach Connie Yori has been named winner of the 2010 Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. In leading the 32-2 Huskers to a 17-game improvement over the 2008-09 campaign (15-16), she becomes the first women’s coach from the Big 12 Conference to claim the Naismith award.

ATLANTA (Feb. 24, 2010) – Just three months into the college basketball season, several programs are vying for supremacy as the top team in the nation. The same can be said for the 30 student-athletes looking to win the Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T after the midseason team was announced today by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. ATLANTA (Nov. 18, 2009) – Connecticut’s Maya Moore seeks to become the first player ever to win two Naismith trophies in high school and college, and the junior forward headlines the 2009-10 preseason watch list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. Moore won the Naismith National High School Girl’s Player of the Year award in both 2006 and 2007 at Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Ga., and claimed the college award this past March. List Dominant With Upperclassmen
ATLANTA (Oct. 29, 2009) – The Big XII Conference has claimed two of the last three Naismith Trophies for Men’s College Player of the Year, and has done so with a sophomore (Blake Griffin, Oklahoma, 2009) and a freshman (Kevin Durant, Texas, 2007). The tide may turn in 2010 as upperclassman claim 33 of the 50 spots in the Naismith 2009-10 preseason watch list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. Seniors (19) and juniors (14) lead the way followed by 13 sophomores and four freshmen.

Auriemma Named Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year
ATLANTA (April 7, 2009) – On the eve of a potential third undefeated season and sixth national championship, University of Connecticut head basketball coach Geno Auriemma has been named winner of the 2009 Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. In the 23-year history of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, Auriemma now claims six (1995, 1997, 2000, 2002 and 2008) honors, and has won more than any other coach. He was previously tied with the University of Tennessee’s Pat Summitt with five.

Griffin Claims Naismith Trophy
DETROIT (April 5, 2009) - University of Oklahoma sophomore Blake Griffin has been named the winner of the 2009 Naismith Men's College Player of the Year Award presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. He edged out DeJuan Blair (University of Pittsburgh), Tyler Hansbrough (University of North Carolina) and Hasheem Thabeet (University of Connecticut) in becoming the fourth current Big 12 conference winner of the award, and third this decade (Kevin Durant, University of Texas, 2007; T.J. Ford, University of Texas, 2003; Danny Manning, Kansas University, 1988 - Kansas was a member of the Big 8 at the time).

Reigning Naismith Trophy Winner Tyler Hansbrough Headlines 2008-09 EarlySeason Watch List
ATLANTA (Dec. 18, 2008) – University of North Carolina forward Tyler Hansbrough takes aim at becoming just the third repeat winner in the 40-year history of the Naismith Trophy as he headlines the 2008-09 early season watch list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. Hansbrough, the third Tar Heel and 16th recipient from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) to win the Naismith Trophy, would join UCLA’s Bill Walton (1972, 73, 74) and Virginia’s Ralph Sampson (1981, 82, 83) as the only multiple winners of the award, if he repeats again this year. The 6-9 senior from Poplar Bluff, Mo., is joined by teammates Wayne Ellington and Ty Lawson on the list.
